The Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration 

සිංහල හා දෙමළ අලුත් අවුරුද්ද නියෝජනය කිරිමක් ලෙස මෙන්ම මෙරට සශ්‍රීකත්වය පිලිබිදු කරමින් පිපෙන මල් වල සුවදත්,ගස් වලින් මුමුණන හඩත් වර්ශිකව එලබෙන අවුරුදු මංගල්‍යය වර්ණවත් කරයි.

පුරාණ සිරිත් විරිත් මත පදනම්ව සහ සංස්කෘතික උරුමයන් සමඟ සම්භවයක් ඇති මිනිස්සුන් එකතු වී සිදු කරන සමාජීය උත්සව නුලෙහි එක් උත්සවයක් ලෙසද බක් මහේ මංගල්‍යය දැක්විය හැක.

සිංහල හා දෙමළ අලුත් අවුරුදු උත්සවයේ මූලය ආරම්භ වූයේ වසර සිය ගණනකට පෙරය.

වෙහෙස මහන්සි වී වැඩ කරන ගොවීන්ගේ හැකියාව  තුළ ඔවුන්ට කැප වූ ශුද්ධ දිනයන් වලින් එකාක් ලෙස අතීතයේ පටන් මෙය සැලකිනි.

 අවසානයේ දී අස්වැන්න නෙළන විට, ශ්‍රී ලාංකික ජනතාවට බහුල භෝග සහ ආශීර්වාද සඳහා දෙවියන් වහන්සේට කෘතඥතාව පළ කළහ.

පලතුරු සමය දිගටම කරගෙන යාමට, කෘෂිකාර්මික හා ආගමික සම්ප්‍රදායන් ඒකාබද්ධ කිරීම සහ එම ප්‍රදේශයට ගෙන ආ සමෘද්ධිය රැක ගනිමින්, සියලු ජාතීන්ට අයත් මිනිසුන් එක්සත් කරන  උත්සවයක පදනම විය. අලුත් අවුරුද්දක් සඳහා මේ සියලු කාර්යබහුල සූදානම් කිරීම්වලට හේතුව සූර්යයා මේෂ රාශියට මාරුවීමේ රාශි චක්රයි. මෙය මීන රාශි මාරුව ලෙස හඳුන්වන අතර එය බෞද්ධ හා හින්දු භක්තිකයන්ට පූජනීය වේ.

ඔවුන් මෙය සලකන්නේ විශ්වයට හා ගොඩබිමට හිතකර වන අලුත් සමයක් ලෙසයි. අලුත් අවුරුදු දින උදාවේ පළමු ආලෝකය නිවෙස්වල ඇති දැල්ලෙන් ලැබෙන ආලෝකයෙන් පවුල් ජීවත් වන තැන දීප්තිමත් වේ.ලිප පත්තු කිරීම යනු පහනක් දැල්වීම හෝ ගිනි තැබීම පමණක් නොවේ, එය සංකේතාත්මකව සෞභාග්‍යය සහ බලාපොරොත්තුව සඳහා මාර්ගය ආලෝකමත් කිරීමේ ක්‍රියාවකි. මේ හැම එකක්ම පවුල්වලට බැඳිය හැකි උණුසුම් සහ සැනසිලිදායක ශුද්ධස්ථානයක් සහතික කිරීම සඳහා පහන් දල්වා ඇත.

ආහාර සහ සහයෝගීතාව සඳහා ගින්නෙහි වටිනාකම පුරාණ කාලයේ සිට සොයා ගත හැකි එකකී. පවුල් උත්සව සදහා මේසය වටා එක්රැස් වන විට, ඔවුන් ආහාර පමණක් නොව, සිනහව, කතන්දර,

සහ ආදරණීය අවස්ථාද හුවමාරු කර ගනියි. කිරිබත් වල කිරී ගුණයේ සිට මිහිරි බව දක්වා කැවුම් සහ කොකිස්, සෑම ප්‍රණීත ආහාරයක්ම සම්ප්‍රදායේ සහ සාමූහිකත්වයේ සාරය දිග හැරෙන අතර, ළමයින්ගේ සිනාසෙන හඩත් , වැඩිහිටියන්ගේ ප්‍රීතිමත් හඬිනුත් වාතය පිරී ඉතිරී යයි.

සාම්ප්‍රදායික ක්‍රීඩා වලදී උද්යෝගිමත් ප්‍රීති ඝෝෂා ද අමතක නොකල යුතුය. ප්‍රීතිමත් කඹ ඇදීමේ සිට දක්ෂ කලාවන් දක්වා ගීස් දැමූ කණුව තරණය කිරීම වැනි තරග ඉන් කිපයකි. මෙම තරඟ මිත්‍රත්වය සහ ක්‍රීඩාශීලිත්වය පෝෂණය කරයි.එමෙන්ම,ශ්‍රී ලාංකේය සංස්කෘතිය තුළ ගැඹුරින් මුල් බැසගත් ගෞරවය සහ සහයෝගීතාවයේ වටිනාකම් මූර්තිමත් කරයි.

අවුරුදු මංගල්‍යය වැදගත් සංස්කෘතික මංගල්‍යයකි. සියලුම ජාතින් එකමුතු කරමින්, සමාජයේ කුඩාම ඒකකයේ එකමුතු කමත් සතුට හා සහජීවනයත් ගොඩනගන රාශි මාරෑව මෙරටට ආවේනික සම්ප්‍රදායින් වැළද ගත් සංස්කෘතික මංගල්‍යයකි.

பசுமை இலங்கையில், பூத்துக்குலுங்கும் பூக்களின் நறுமணத்திற்கிடையே ஆண்டிற்கொருமுறை கொண்டாடப்படும் பண்டிகையாம் இந்த சிங்கள தமிழ் புத்தாண்டு கொண்டாட்டம். பண்டைய மரபுகளையும் கலாச்சார பண்பாடுகளையும் அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்ட இந்நாளில் நாடு முழுவதும் உள்ள மக்கள் வேறுபாடின்றி ஒன்றுகூடி சமூக ஒருமைப்பாட்டை மகிழ்வுடன் கொண்டாடுவதுண்டு

இந்த சிங்கள தமிழ் புத்தாண்டானது பலநூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் விவசாயிகள் புனிதமாக கருதும் நாட்களை அடிப்படையாக கொண்டே தோற்றம் பெற்றது. அருவடையின் இறுதியில் கடவுளின் அருளிற்கு இலங்கை மக்கள் நன்றி செலுத்தினர்

இந்த சமய மற்றும் வேளாண்மை பன்பாடுகளின் இணைப்பு மற்றும் உள்நாட்டு மக்களுக்கு இந்நாளில் கிடைத்த செல்வம் என்பவை பல்லின மக்களை இணைக்கும் இந்நன்னாளிற்கு அடிப்படையாக இருந்தது

இந்த புதுவருட நாற்களின் போது அவசர அவசரமான ஏற்பாடுகளுக்கு காரணம் சூரியன் ராசிச்சக்கரத்தில் மேஷ ராசிக்கு இடம்மாறுவது ஆகும். இது ‘மீன ராசி இடம்பெயர்வு’ எனப்படும். இது பெளத்த மற்றும் இந்து மக்களுக்கு புனிதமானது. பிரபஞ்சமானது நிலத்தை வளமாக்கும் புதுப்பிக்கும் பருவமாக இதை அவர்கள் கருதுவர்

புதுவருடத்தின் முதல் நாள் விடியும் போதுள்ள ஒளிக்கதிர் குடும்பங்கள் வாழும் வீட்டிலெரியும் தீச்சுடருன் சேர்ந்து மேலும் பிரகாசிக்கும். அடுப்பங்கரையை தீயேற்றுவது சாதாரன விளக்கையேற்றுவது போலல்லாமல் செல்வத்திற்கும் நம்பிக்கைக்கும் இட்டுச்செல்லும் பாதைக்கு அடையாளமாய் அமையும்

இந்நாளில் குடும்பங்கள் ஒன்றுகூடும்போது உணவை மட்டும் பகிர்வதோடு அல்லாமல் சந்தோஷத்தையும் நினைவுகளையும் பகிர்வதுண்டு. சுவையான பால்சோற்றிலிரிந்து இனிப்பான பலகாரங்கள் வரை ஒவ்வொரு உணவுப்பண்டமும் பண்பாட்டையும் ஒற்றுமையையும் தாங்கி நிற்கிறது. சிறுவர் முதல் பெரியோர் வரை இல்லமெங்கும் சிரிப்பொலியால் நிறையும் சம்பிரதாய விளையாட்டுக்களை விளையாடுவர்.

கயிறிழுக்கும் போட்டி, வழுக்கும் கம்பத்தில் ஏறுதல் போன்று இலங்கையின் கலாச்சாரத்தை எடுத்துக்காட்டும் விளையாட்டுக்களுமுண்டு

இப்பண்டிகை மிக முக்கியமானது, இலங்கையின் பல்லின மக்கள் ஒன்றிணையும் கொண்டாட்டங்களும் புரிந்துணர்வை தரும் சடங்குகளும் ஒற்றுமையை பலப்படுத்தும்

இந்நாள் முடியம் போது வானை இருள் சூழ்ந்தாலும் கொண்டாட்டங்களின் நினைவுகள் எம்மோடு பயனிக்கும். இப்பாரம்பரியம் இலங்கைச்சமுதாயத்தின் ஆன்மாவினால் தொடரப்படுவதோடு சமூகங்களுக்கிடையேயான புரிந்துணர்வு விருத்தியைடந்துகொண்டே இருக்கும். அனைவரும் தம் பண்பாடுகளை அணைத்துக்கொள்ளும் இலங்கையின் புதுவருடம் பிரகாசிப்பது தெரிகிறது.

In the lush sceneries of Sri Lanka, under the scent of blooming flowers and whispering trees, a colorful event is held annually in April representing the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration. Based on ancient customs and infused with cultural heritage, people across the island come together to represent a festive thread that links society into celebrations of joy. 

The roots of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration originated hundreds of years ago within the rhythm of hardworking farmers and their devoted holy days. At the end of the harvest, Lankan people expressed their gratitude to God for abundant crops and blessings for continuing the fruitful season.

The fusion of agricultural and religious traditions – and the prosperity it brought to the local population – formed the basis of a festival that unites people of all races. 

The reason for all those busy preparations for a New Year is the sun shifting to Aries on the zodiac wheel. This is called the Meena Rashiya shift and it is sacred for Buddhists and Hindus. They consider this to be a renewal season when the universe is favorable towards the land.

The first light of dawn on New Year’s Day is brighter with the light from a flame in homes where families live. Lighting the hearth is not merely the act of lighting a lamp or setting a fire but it is the act of symbolically lighting the way for prosperity and hope. Every one of these oil lamps is carefully lit to ensure a warm and comforting sanctum where families can bond and mark one that can be traced back to ancient days when the value of fire to food and fellowship was grand . 

As families gather around the festive table, they share not just food, but also laughter, stories, and cherished moments. From the creamy goodness of Kiribath to the intricate sweetness of Kavum and Kokis, each delicacy carries the essence of tradition and togetherness.As the day unfolds, the air is filled with the joyful sounds of children laughing and adults engaged in spirited cheers during traditional games. From the exhilarating tug-of-war to the skillful art of climbing the greased pole, these timeless contests foster camaraderie and sportsmanship, embodying the values of respect and cooperation deeply rooted in Sri Lankan culture.

The New Year matte­rs. It shows Sri Lanka’s different backgrounds unite. The­ rituals have power. Tradition gives pe­ople from other groups understanding. This obse­rvance proves traditions strengthe­n unity.

Daylight ends but joy rings on. The cele­bration memories live. The­ spirit of community preserves this occasion. As tradition continue­s, understanding betwee­n people flourishes. Sri Lanka’s Ne­w Year shines, uniting all people  with tradition’s embrace.
