27th of September was a date that almost all of us were eagerly waiting for. The excitement and the enthusiasm were building up ever since the main flyer was released. What was this hype all about? It was none other than the Mid Town Hopper Night organized by the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town. As the evening dawned, people were turning up in numbers at the Mid Town President, Rtr. Nipun’s house. Some wearing lungis and sarongs while some turned up in a casual outfit. Music was playing in the background while everyone was engaged in interesting conversations probably about how creative the decorations were or about the familiar aroma that was spreading around which was undoubtedly coming from the Kottu station.
Rtr. Nipun’s garden was soon filled with many excited rotaractors. There were a bunch of people playing a game of Uno and Omi and not far away from that were a group of people playing an intense round of chess and carom. Inside the house were a bunch of girls enjoying the board games, Taboo and Jenga. It was just the beginning of a great night and was undeniable as to how good the aroma coming from the Kottu station was and it did not take that much of time for people to line up to get their tummies filled with Egg hoppers and Lunu miris, Chicken and Vegetable kottu with a spicy yet delicious Chicken curry. The queue didn’t seem to end as everyone came back for another round of serving.
The Kottu station was going strong but it didn’t stop Rtr. Binal from pulling the crowd inside the house to show some amazing magic tricks that kept the crowd enthralled. Our very own DRR Rtr. Bala’s face explained how mind-blowing the tricks were. After that, the mic was open to the crowd where we witnessed wonderful performances of the talented rotaractors. Standup comedy, beat boxing, singing you name it, they did it. Then, the band performed Sri Lankan classics which kept the entire crowd on their feet. Even the ones who were playing intense rounds of carrom and omi stopped the games and joined the dance floor.
This was not your ordinary hopper night. Needless to say, the Mid Towners did an impressive job to make the Hopper N8 as amazing as it was. If you are reading this article and if you have not been to the Mid Town Hopper N8, then make sure you go there next year!
