The World Peace Day Art Competition was organized by the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura to celebrate the World Peace Day which was held on 21st of September.
This was a tiny effort to build connections with the Rotaract Clubs all over the world and spread the word of peace.
The art competition was open for both Rotaractors and Interactors. The competitors were given a theme which was proposed by the UN for the year 2019. The theme for the competition was “Climate Action for Peace”. The entries for the competition were open from the 9th of September 2019 to the 29th of September. We received many creative and beautiful pieces of art from many Rotaractors and Interactors from around the island.
The art exhibition was held at the Sugar Beach, Mount Lavinia with all the arts of the competitors. All the competitors and their club members were invited to the exhibition. To select the most popular art among the arts of these talented artists, we held an online vote of 24 hours and also a physical vote on the day of the exhibition.
It was very exciting to see how the members of the clubs of the respective competitors came and cast their votes. Mr. Upali Weerawardena, the director of Ceylon art gallery was the judge of the competition. The judging process took place at the end of the Exhibition.
Rtr. Oshadi Dias from the Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Management and Finance secured the first place and Rtr. Kavindya Liyanage from the Rotaract Club of Peal Island won the second place while Rtr. Shalika Fernando from Rotaract Club of ICBT secured the third place. The award for the most popular artwork was won by Rtr. Vihanga Kavinga from the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
All the participants were awarded a valuable certificate and all the arts which were sent to the competition were made into postcards. These postcards were sent to both local and International Rotaract clubs spreading the word of peace.
