“I’m a Rotaractor” is the Annual induction program of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura with the aim of introducing Rotaract and building fellowship among the new Rotaractors and existing club members of RACUSJ. This year the event was successfully held on the 14th and 15th of August.
Traditionally, the program is conducted as a physical event at university premises with various fun activities but due to the pandemic forcing us to stay at a social distance, the project organizing committee decided to coordinate the program as a virtual event via zoom just as fun as last years without letting down our fellow Rotaractors’ expectations.
The theme of the event, the movie “Jumanji” was selected to carry out for the 2 days with the presence of the “Jumanji Task Force”, consisting of our own talented Rotaractors dressed up as the 4 lead characters of the movie.
A video series was published prior to the event day to attract not only Rotaractors, but also Non-Rotaractors to participate on both event days. a valuable video series was done with the Rotaract memories and experiences of the Past Executive Committee and remarkable personalities who were part of RACUSJ in its 10 years who held hands with us by sharing the value and color Rotaract has added to their lives.
The first event day which everyone was eagerly looking forward to, was set in motion with inspiring speeches by the current president of the club Rtr. Minushi De Silva and Rtn. Rtr. IPP Amasha Sirimanne with the active participation of nearly a hundred participants.
The event was graced by the presence of District Rotaract Representative Rtn. Rtr. PP. Akhila Wijetunga, who accentuated the importance of being a Rotaractor, in his speech.
The rest of the day was filled with fun and interactive sessions including two team games, breaking the ice between the team members to engage actively and interact with others.
Games were hosted by the “Jumanji Task Force”, who were in costumes of Jumanji characters. It was unexpected to see such enthusiasm and engagement from the participants with the fact that everything was performed virtually.
Also, the talented twins, Sarith and Surith, and another gorgeous and talented artist, Midori Karunarathne, with their mesmerizing performances graced the event days with their presence to add color to the show which put everyone in ecstasy.
The second day of the event started with the same excitement and the session was mainly aimed to give newbies a clear idea about the Rotaract movement and our club. Accordingly, the session was carried out educating the participants about the Rotaract Movement and giving a clear understanding of each avenue.
To add some excitement among the crowd, two games; ‘Get it Right’ and ‘Jumanji Expert’ was next in order and same as day 01, “Jumanji Task Force” supported participants to engage in games actively. The end of the day was marked with announcing winners of each game and the most interactive team.
The success of the project indeed was beyond everyone’s expectations as we received worthy feedback on the project from the audience.
Thus, the first quarter of Project “I’m a Rotaractor 2021” was concluded on a high note marking another phenomenal milestone for RACUSJ and with high hopes for the upcoming event days of the Project to educate and guide our Rotaractors towards serving to change lives.
