The General Meeting for the month of November and the DRR visit was held on the 23rd of November 2022 at the Royal College Union Skills Centre as a hybrid event, providing the opportunity for all the RACUSJ members to participate in the General Meeting either physically or via the Zoom platform. Rtr. Sandunika Samandini and Rtr. Anujini Perera, the Co-directors of the International Service Avenue and Rtr. Damindu Lakshan and Rtr. Venuri Mettananda, the Co-directors of the Professional Development Avenue, bore the responsibility of organizing the general meeting.
The highlight of the event was the visit of the District Rotaract Representative for the RI year 2022-23, Rtn. Rtr. PP Ahamed S. Hussain. His presence was marked through the online platform. The event was also graced by the presence of Rotaract District Secretary 2022-23, Rtn. Rtr. IPP Danica Harding; Rotaract District Treasurer 2022-23, Rtn. Rtr. PP Vidushith Jayesundara; Guide Club Coordinator Rtn. Rtr. PP Lafraan Lahir and Assistant District Rotaract Representative 2022-23, Rtn. Rtr. PP Nimesha Jayamanne. President of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Rtr. Madushan Dananjaya called the meeting to order. He expressed a warm welcome to all who were present at the meeting following the Rotaract formalities.
Next, the Meeting Minutes was presented by Rtr. Gagani Gunasinghe – Secretary of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The meeting minutes were proposed by Rtr. Malithi Fernando and seconded by Rtr. Anjula Udishan. Following that, the Board of Directors of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura presented the avenue announcements. The announcements made it clear that the effort and the continuous dedication that the RACUSJ have put forth to create an influential impact on the earth by addressing major global issues. Every director presented a brief explanation regarding their ongoing projects, completed projects and other initiatives.
The District Rotaract Representative Rtn. Rtr. PP Ahamed Hussain then graciously addressed the gathering via the online platform. He stated the importance of being a Rotaractor by emphasizing the need of creating opportunities for all the Rotaractors and non-Rotaractors to Learn, Serve and Strive. To break the momentum, he asked a simple but significant question; “Why did you join Rotaract?”, from all those who were present at the meeting. Many participants gave unique reasons that motivated them to be a Rotaractor and to be a part of countless success stories. That short yet interesting conversation with the DRR undoubtedly uplifted everyone’s mood further.
Club President Rtr. Madushan Dananjaya expressed his sincere gratitude to all the dignitaries for attending the General Meeting of RACUSJ. Further, he expressed his gratitude to the Executive Committee Members, the Board of Directors and especially the General Members for their presence at the meeting. Afterwards, he announced the conclusion of the General Meeting for the Month of November. The meeting ended with a group photo to mark the end of another wonderful evening.
