As the environmental problems are growing day by day the need for conservation, sustainable utilization of available resources and the concept of an eco-friendly lifestyle have come to light.
Accordingly, the Environmental Service Avenue of RACUSJ initiated and continued the project Growing Green 4.0 for the 4th consecutive year.
The project mainly focused on carbon footprint, zero-emission vehicles & environment-friendly means of living with minimum impacts on mother nature. These areas were successfully covered with the carefully chosen phases of the project.
The first phase, the carbon footprint survey, is believed to have made a significant impact on both Rotaractors & non Rotaractors islandwide due to the number of responses we received. After the calculations were done, we individually send the participants their results, making them aware of their contribution to environmental issues arising from their carbon footprint. This phase also included an interesting youtube video series, EcoV which focussed on zero-emission vehicles. We were able to bring new trends & technologies to the public very effectively & creatively through that.
The plant distribution programme conducted under the second phase of the project surely made a lasting impression within that chosen community. Since the participation of our club members was also appreciable, it not only served as a part of the project but also became a platform to build up friendships.
The final phase of the project, the home gardening competition, surely gave a fantastic opportunity for the community to participate and gain some self-satisfaction about their own efforts in gardening. With the unbiased judgements received from our honourable judge Ms. Chamali Rodrigo, we announced the winner of the competition finally marking the end of a series of efforts which continued for nearly 10 months.
