Vanguard is a leadership camp, organized by the Professional Development Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
The project intended to mold rotaractors in terms of leadership development and camaraderie. The project commenced on 22th May 2024 at the university premises.
The members were divided into groups and various activities were performed in outdoors while refreshment was served..
We did timber trek game, in there members were divided into two groups and marked starting point and the end point. Three card board pieces were provided to them. Each member should keep their steps on the cardboard until reach to the end point. If someone goes out the whole team losses.
We organized another activity which helps to develop team trusting called balloon snake relay. One member runs to the front and carries the balloon to the starting point where another member holds the balloon between his back and other’s stomach. This process continues by adding a members one by one.
Ribbon knot game helps to critical thinking in serious situations. For this game a rope is needed to make loops on both ends. The goal is untangle your rope from your partner’s without removing the loop on your both hands.
Blind folded basket relay, the members stand in a line and all expect the last one close their eyes. The last one gives signals and the first member of the raw puts the ball to the basket according to the provided signals.
There was a fashion design event using newspapers, scissors and cello tapes. They were tasked with making a creative costumewithin 20 minutes and to do a creative team act for 5 minutes to explain their costume. The most creative costume wins the game.
Participants gained a lot of experiences and soft skills like team work, time management, effective communication, and trusting each other. The day was full of joy and laughter. At the end of the day, it was seen that more friendship were made and existing friendship were strengthened. The project was concluded successfully and all the participants dispersed happily promising to carry this forward for many years.
