It was the 21st of March that all the party heads were counting their fingers till, as Amigo 4.0, the ultimate beach extravaganza, was about to be unraveled. The overarching event was the brainchild of the Sports and Recreational Activities Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. However, this year, a single day on the sand wasn’t enough to contain the hype. Amigo 4.0 was designed as a thrilling two-phase saga, bringing together the scorching energy of traditional beach games and the high-flying action of ultimate frisbee.

Phase 1 kicked off at the Panadura beach, expected to draw as many as 60 participants. Under the fostering leadership of event chair Rtr. Mihiri Herath and the strong collaboration by the team members, the first chapter of the event saw great success. Financial assistance was provided by Parley, taking the event into a sustainability narrative rather than being a mere beach party.

On the day of the event, Panadura beach was already getting ready for the hype from the early morning itself as the team set the groundwork. At around 1.00 PM, delegates gathered at the Open Canteen in the university premises and were accompanied to the bus. By 2.30 PM, the delegates were in the registration tent waiting to be registered in a hurry before the fun could finally begin. At the same time, Rtr. Pethmi and Rtr. Sarith were getting ready with the mics to uplift the fun with what turned out to be some energetic compering. Once registered, participants were split into teams: Turtles, Dominators, Panthers, ACUSJ, Search, and Chasers, all set to unleash their power.

The tension started building with Tunnel Ball, followed immediately by the Treasure Hunt. Serving the main sponsor – Parley’s sustainability narrative, the hunt was disguised as a beach cleanup, where the team collecting the highest load of trash along with two hidden treasure boxes would win. It was an exciting challenge that set a reminder that actions at RACUSJ are always conducted in alignment with the betterment of the environment.

At 4.00 PM, teams were provided with snacks and also Milo, sponsored by the Beverage partner Nestle and the Banner partner – RNH BPO to level up the vibes. Laughter burst out of everyone during “Pass the Cup,” followed by the peak thrill of “Balloon Clash.” The teams were put into blocks to pop opponents’ balloons while defending their own, squeezing out every drip of adrenaline. The beach games concluded with a hilarious coupled-run beach relay, creating memories of a lifetime. By 6.00 PM, Team Dominators were announced as winners, securing a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, while Team Turtles walked away as runners-up with Rs. 10,000. After sharing warm birthday wishes with special guest Sandew Ediriweera, President of the Rotaract Club of Panadura, and witnessing some eye-catching fireworks, the delegates headed back to the university, their hearts still at the beach.

But the hype of Amigo 4.0 was far from over. On the 10th of May 2026, Phase 2 was unleashed: The Frisbee Bash.

This time, the action shifted to the beautiful Mount Lavinia Beach. Running from 6.30 AM until 9.30 AM, the morning mood was absolutely perfect for an outdoor sport – not quite sunny, neither gloomy, providing the ultimate atmosphere for throwing the disc. Powered by the full sponsorship of the Sharks Frisbee team, this phase gathered 25 eager participants ready to conquer the sand.

Rather than jumping straight into heavy competition, the morning celebrated the true, welcoming spirit of ultimate frisbee. The flow began with a comprehensive Frisbee 101 training session. The experts guided the delegates through the fundamental throws, the right techniques for catching, and how to maneuver across the beach. Once everyone had a solid grip on the basics, the beach transformed into a playground for friendly encounters. The sky was filled with soaring discs as teams engaged in casual, energy-packed matches. It wasn’t about the scoreboard; it was about the spectacular diving catches, the shared sportsmanship, and the pure joy of the game.

Ultimately, Amigo 4.0 proved to be more than just a beach party. While both phases were exceptionally entertaining, the friendships, the laughter, and the team spirit showcased were over the top. The event also successfully supported Sustainable Development Goals, including Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, Life on Land, and Partnerships for the Goals. From the adrenaline of Panadura to the spirited throws at Mount Lavinia, Amigo 4.0 is guaranteed to remain unforgettable in everyone’s hearts.
