Path-Venture 2025 was an unforgettable adventure as participants embarked on a thrilling hike to Bathalegala, also known as Bible Rock, on January 25, 2025. Organized by the Sports and Recreational Activities Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the event brought together adventure enthusiasts for a day of exploration, teamwork, and appreciation of nature.
The day began early, with all delegates gathering at the university’s Open Canteen at 6:00 AM, where breakfast was provided by the organizing committee. Once everyone had arrived, Chairperson Lavindu conducted a brief meeting, introducing the organizing committee members and providing important instructions for the hike. The event team then divided the participants into groups of ten and distributed medical packs for safety.
At 7:00 AM, two buses departed from the university, marking the official start of the journey. Along the way, refreshments were distributed to keep everyone energized. After a scenic drive, the group reached the starting point of the hike at 11:00 AM, where lunch packets were handed out before the trek began.
The hike to the peak of Bathalegala was both challenging and breathtaking. The path was lined with vibrant flowers and even some endangered plant species, making the journey even more special. The scenery along the way was truly mesmerizing. At one point, a small rock formation provided the perfect opportunity for a short break, where participants captured memorable selfies and group photos. The initial part of the hike featured a concrete road, but soon after, thousands of stone steps led the way to the summit.

Upon reaching the peak, the breathtaking views made the climb worth every step. The cool breeze, the vast greenery, and the mist-covered mountains in the distance created a serene and calming atmosphere. From the top, participants could see paddy fields stretching across the countryside, surrounded by endless greenery. Everyone took time to enjoy their lunch, capture stunning photographs, and appreciate the natural beauty of Bathalegala. Before leaving, all participants and Rotaract members gathered for a group photo with the event banner, marking the momentous occasion.
As the mist began to roll in, the team decided to descend the mountain. By 5:00 PM, everyone had returned to the buses, where refreshments were once again provided. The return journey was filled with shared stories and laughter, as participants reflected on the incredible experience. Finally, at 8:30 PM, the team arrived back at the university, bringing an end to a truly memorable day.
Path-Venture was not just a hike; it was an adventure filled with teamwork, exploration, and the beauty of nature. Covering the Sustainable Development Goals Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, Life on Land & Partnerships for the Goals, Path-Venture was sustainable in many ways. The experience left everyone with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for Sri Lanka’s natural wonders.
