The Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura marked a remarkable milestone in its journey of leadership, service, and fellowship with the grand 15th Installation Ceremony. Held on October 26th, 2025, from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. at the Sumangala Auditorium, the event celebrated the official appointment of the new Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the Rotary International Year 2025/26. Despite the rich agenda, the ceremony successfully remained within the two hour timeframe without compromising quality or elegance.

A Celebration of Legacy and Leadership

For fifteen years, RACUSJ has empowered young leaders to inspire, serve, and grow with purpose. This year’s installation embodied that spirit perfectly. More than a formal transition, it was a celebration of the club’s resilience, achievements, and unwavering commitment to service above self.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests including:

• Chief Guest: President of Rotary Club of Colombo Mid Town, Rtn. Jananga Piyadasa
• Guest of Honour: PHF Rtn. PP G. S. Sylvester
• District Youth Service Director: Rtn. PP Numan Zarajudeen
• DRR: Rtr. PP Nazmi Mahamood

Their presence added great value, reflecting the strong ties between Rotaractors and Rotarians who continue to uplift the movement together.

A Ceremony Rooted in Tradition

The event began with Outgoing Vice President Rtr. Hiruni calling the house to order, followed by Outgoing President Rtr. Akila Weerasuriya officially commencing the 15th Installation Ceremony.

The lighting of the traditional oil lamp symbolized hope, unity, and the dawn of a new chapter. This was followed by the National Anthem, University Anthem, Flag Salutation, Rotaract Invocation, and Rotaract Song, creating an atmosphere of pride, discipline, and fellowship.

The auditorium was filled with Rotarians, alumni, university officials, and Rotaractors from clubs across Sri Lanka,each representing the enduring spirit and unity that define Rotaract.

Reflections and Vision: Speeches that Inspired

A series of heartfelt and inspiring speeches enriched the agenda.
The Outgoing President, Rtr. Akila Weerasuriya reflected on a transformative year, highlighting achievements, challenges overcome, and the collective effort of his team. His words were filled with pride and gratitude, acknowledging the dedication of every member.

The Incoming President, Rtr. Nethmi Bandara, shared her powerful vision for the upcoming year. With a message rooted in creativity, passion, and unity, she reminded members that Rotaract thrives on people who choose to lead with purpose and heart.

The Moment of Transition: Installation of the New Board

The highlight of the ceremony was the official installation of President Rtr. Nethmi Bandara and the Board of Directors for 2025/26.

Warm applause from the audience echoed trust, pride, and collective encouragement as the new leadership team stepped forward.

Adding to the spirit of the celebration, Rotaractors from other clubs and members of the District Steering Committee extended their congratulations, reinforcing the fellowship and unity that make the Rotaract movement truly remarkable.

A Future Filled with Purpose

As the ceremony concluded, the atmosphere was filled with optimism and inspiration. Members departed with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to embark on another year of service, leadership, and impact.

The 15th Installation Ceremony was more than an event, it was a reminder that leadership may evolve from year to year, but the heart of Rotaract remains unchanged. It continues to beat with passion, unity, and the drive to make a difference in the world.

With a strong legacy behind and a promising year ahead, RACUSJ steps confidently into another chapter,guided by service, strengthened by teamwork, and uplifted by the unwavering Rotaract spirit.
