As we gathered for the 13th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, we remembered that it wasn’t just about adding new names to our roster; it was about weaving new threads into the vibrant tapestry of friendship and service. May this ceremony have marked the beginning of profound connections, shared ambitions, and meaningful collaborations, as we worked hand in hand, forging friendships and accomplishing remarkable deeds together.

Twelve years ago, a passionate commitment to a noble cause was born, and today, the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura stood tall as one of the largest institute-based clubs within Rotary International District 3220. Since its inception, the club has achieved significant milestones, creating cherished memories and actively contributing to the remarkable success and growth of the community by dedicating itself to upliftment and service. To enhance our community service efforts, we were on the verge of experiencing a new start on a beautiful morning, October 21st, 2023, at the Sumangala Auditorium, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. We ceremonially unveiled the 13th chapter of the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura after months of planning and preparation. This year’s Installation Ceremony was organized by the Membership Development Committee with great effort.

The ceremony was honored by the presence of distinguished guests: District Rotaract Representative (DRR) for the RI year 2023-24 – Rtr. PP Sathma Jayasinghe at the head table and all other District Steering Committee members, Rotarians, and Rotaractors from fellow Rotaract Clubs.

The ceremony formally commenced at 10:00 am with the lighting of the digital oil lamp and performing the Rotaract formalities. The Project Chairperson, Rtr. Sanuri Reshma, then warmly welcomed all who were gathered to witness this special occasion.

After that, the report for the year 2022–23 was delivered by the outgoing Secretary, Rtr. Gagani Gunasinghe. With humility and a sense of accomplishment, she reflected on the club’s remarkable initiatives to uplift the community, celebrating our collective achievements as a united family over months and years. Reminiscing about our 12-year odyssey, she shared the club’s pride in its exceptional commitment and relentless efforts, highlighting our recognition at the 33rd Rotaract District Training Assembly. There, the club was honored with three prestigious awards and five recognitions, a testament to our unwavering dedication and creative spirit.

Bill Gates once said, “A leader is one who empowers others.” Speaking of leaders, we acknowledged an extraordinary individual who skillfully steered the Rotaract ship through a year marked by challenges and hurdles. Immediate Past President Rtr. Madushan Dananjaya eloquently spoke to the assembled crowd one last time as the President of the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Phil Jackson once said, “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.” The outgoing Board of Directors and Executive Committee received service letters in recognition of their significant contributions to the club.

The much-awaited moment arrived when Rtr. Yezeed Yehiya, the incoming President of the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, was introduced by Rtr. Tharushi Pigera. She emphasized his outstanding dedication to the club and shared a video capturing the beautiful memories of his Rotaract journey, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. The President for the RI year 2023-24 was collared by Rtr. Madushan Dananjaya, who thus took up his role as the Immediate Past President, passed down the gavel to Rtr. Yezeed Yehiya, officially appointing him as the 13th President of the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
