The Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura proudly hosted the 7^th Installation Ceremony of President Rtr. Samudya Amarasinghe and his Board of Directors, on the 24th of August 2017 at the Science Faculty Auditorium in the university premises.

The night was the most awaited event in the club’s Rotaract calendar for the year 2017/18 and was held with much prestige and grandeur. The ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Sampath Amarathunga, Guest of Honour, President of Rotary Club of Battaramulla, Rtn. Warren Solomnz, and other dignitaries including DRCC Rtn. PP Bobby Sirinivas and DRR for the year 2017/18, Rtr. Anuradha Senanayake. Then the kindling of the traditional oil lamp by the dignitaries took place, followed by the Flag Salutation, Rotaract Invocation, 4-way test and the Rotaract song.

The day’s proceedings started off with the welcome address delivered by the Chairperson of the Installation Rtr. Dinuka Seneviratne. Highlighting the challenging hurdles that the club surpassed in the past year, the Secretary’s Report was then presented by Rtr. Methma Welivita on behalf of the Secretary for the year 2016/17.

The outgoing President for 2016/17 Rtr. Osanda Wijesundara took the stage next to convey his final words as the President of the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. His speech included his gratitude to all who had assisted him in concluding the Rotaract year 2016/17 on a winning note amidst all the obstacles that came their way. He then collared the incoming President Rtr. Samudya Amarasinghe and officially handed over the duties and responsibilities of the post.

President Rtr. Samudya Amarasinghe then voiced his vision for the club’s future to the elite gathering, while recalling the inspiration he received through the projects that touched his heart.

The evening was enlightened with a speech by Mr. Ramanayake, Media Secretary,

Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development and Founder of the Youth Brigade, who outlined the importance of the youth of the country uniting forces contributing to worthy causes, regarding which the Rotaract Club of USJP was expected to partner in an upcoming project.

Lined up next was the address by the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sampath

Amrathunga, who emphasized how the Rotaract Club brings together all the faculties in the university as a much-needed brotherhood venture. He applauded the role played by the club in the past years as a major stakeholder of the university. DRR Rtr. Anuradha Senanayake addressed the gathering subsequently, bringing to light the outstanding performance of the club in the past year, regarding award-winning projects such as “Nethu Dahasak”. The project “Butterfly Effect” was also commended by her for gaining recognition as one of the most trending projects in the current year.

Further inspiration was brought in to the gathering by DRCC Rtn. PP Bobby Sirinivas, who praised the club’s efforts to spur the university community into joining the Rotaract movement and giving back to the society in a bigger and better manner. Rotary President, Rtn. Warren Solomnz added some much-needed words of motivation for the young Rotaractors and praised the rise in the membership of the club within the year, encouraging every member to join hands with the sponsoring Rotary Club for further events.

Meanwhile, tokens of appreciation were handed over to all the dignitaries who graced the occasion, with gratitude for sparing their valuable time to join the evening. The house was then open for Felicitations, after which the event came into a conclusion with the Vote of Thanks delivered by the club Secretary Rtr. Divya Kalansuriya, followed by the National Anthem.
