The eighth installation ceremony of the Rotaract club of the university of Sri Jayawardenapura was held at the auditorium of Faculty of Applied Sciences on the sixth of August 2018. It was a remarkable day for all the Rotaracters as the day witnessed the induction of the fresh board of directors and committee members. The most eventful of the day’s agenda was the appointment of the newly elected president, Rtr. Oshani Singapuliarachchi.

 The presence of Prof. Sampath Amarathunga as the chief guest of the ceremony who is the Vice Chancellor of the university and his speech marked the importance of the Rotaract club and its services coupled with the influence it has over diverse spheres as the largest club in the university. Guests of honor was the President of the Rotary Club of Battaramulla, Rtr. Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) Tania Weerasooria. Other distinguished guests included District Rotaract Representative (DRR) Rtr. PP Amjad Yoosuf, District Guide Club Coordinator (Current year) Rtr. PP. Ellon Newton and Youth Services Chairperson of the Rotary Club of Battaramulla Rtr. Lasitha Ranawakage.

The ceremony focused remarkably on the achievements of the club and its past projects which have made a lasting impression in its admirable journey with strict compliance to the club’s vision and mission. However, the major emphasis of the ceremony was on the introduction of new directors for the year 2018/19. These new directors are the driving force behind the future projects of the Rotaract club of the university of Sri Jayawardenapura.

The new directors include Vice President Rtr. Akshitha Ishara, Joint Secretaries, Rtr. Saranga Madurasinghe and Damithri Wanniarachchi, Treasurer, Rtr. Savindra Wedahitha, Sergeant-at-Arms, Rtr. Gayantha Jayasooriya and the editor, Rtr. Udara Liyanarathna.

The club consists of many avenues and new directors representing each avenue. Various activities are carried out under their direction with the club’s motto in their minds “Be empowered to empower”. The directors include Rtr. Chathuni Jayaweera, Rtr. Rajitha Jayarathne, and Rtr.Radhini Kaluhendiwela who are the new directors of the avenue of Club Services. Rtr. Chathurya Silva, Rtr. Asira Abeywickrama, and Rtr.Rasara Devindi are the new directors of the avenue of Community Service. International Services avenue is directed by Rtr. Tharindi Dewasurendra and Rtr.Binukshi Kaumadi. Professional Development is another important avenue which is directed by

Rtr. Oshan Bulugahapitiya and Rtr. Hirushi Peduruarachchi. Finance avenue of the club is directed by Rtr. Dhanangja Perera and Rtr. Sachindri Kulathunga. The newly appointed directors for Member Relations are Rtr. Senuri Hettihamu and Rtr. Hashari Karunarathne while the avenue of Public Relations is directed by Rtr. Promodini Jaykodi and Rtr. S.R.B.N.M Oshani. The advisor of the club is Rtr. Nisal Balasooriya.

The 8th installation ceremony also witnessed the departure of the former president of the club Rtr. IPP Samudaya Amarasinghe. Thus, the 8th induction ceremony noted the end of an era while it also manifested the brilliance of the beginning of another chapter in the history of the Rotaract club of the university of Sri Jayawardenapura. The induction ceremony brought forth all its glory throughout the program and ended on a positive note.
