Gift a smile was the very first project I attended to, as a Rotaractor. Basically, it was a community service project initiated and conducted by the Rotaract club of University of Moratuwa with the intention of enhancing the life led by the children confined to Children’s Homes in Sri Lanka. This project was held on 26th of August focusing on the children at Sucharithodaya Child Development Centre, Maharagama.
First, we visited the museum with the kids where they got the opportunity to learn and discover new knowledge. Then, the kids were taken to the planetarium which was indeed a great experience for them. Finally, they were taken to Mount Lavinia beach where mini games were held such as sand castlebuilding, which was organised by our club members.
We too spent the day enjoyably as much as the kids. Not only we engaged ourselves in serving the community, but also it was a great exposure for all the newbies of Rotaract and it was a great opportunity to expand their network.
It’s truly wonderful how a complete set of strangers become friends in no time while serving the community. I am honestly delighted to be a part of this noble project. It was in fact a great experience in my journey of Rotaract.
