Beach Cleanup’18

Trash is more than just an eyesore! The mother nature has gifted us with thousands of beautiful beaches all over the world. But unfortunately, trash turns out beautiful beaches into landfills. These can badly affect the animals and the coral reefs. Steps are being taken around the world by different community groups in order to minimize negative impacts of it.

Beach cleanup’18 was a project organized by the Community Service avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. To contribute to the community by cleaning up the coastal area, was the main goal of this project. This year’s project was carried out in the Mount Lavinia beach. The project was held on 18th of November. About 50 Rotaractors joined this project. The members were split into groups in order to cover a large area and the collected trash were separated as plastic and polythene, glass, regiform and other. At the end of the cleanup, refreshments were given to the participants.

We would like to thank each and every individual who contributed to this great cause even by a word.
