Environment is essential for a healthy lifestyle. Air, food, medicine are few of the things provided by the environment while sustaining the economies. Therefore, the power and ability of the mankind should be used to save and protect the environment for the future generations to come.
The Environmental Service Avenue was launched newly this year to the club with the intention of serving the mother nature by focusing on Environmental and Green life projects. As for the Rotaract district 3220, Butterfly logo symbolizes the Environmental Service Avenue. The importance and the wonderfulness of the avenue is remarked by the symbol of butterfly.
The Environmental Service Avenue of the Roatarct club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura is blessed with a hardworking team that consists of different budding talents. New conspicuous projects will be carried out in the future by this team with the purpose of serving the mother nature.
The first initiative step was taken by commencing the project Growing Green 2.0. The main objective of the project is to spread awareness by informing the public how their consumption, behavior effects CO2 emissions and to analyze the causes of carbon footprints and to determine how to reduce it by the next 10 years’ time. (According to WHO, a carbon footprint is a measure of the impact your activities have on the amount of CO2 produced through the burning of fossil fuels and is expressed as a weight of CO2 emissions produced in tons).
Most importantly as a part of this project, the avenue members are also planning to neutralize carbon footprint by planting trees. Currently a survey is being run among all Sri Lankans to provide the data and numerical values that are needed to calculate their carbon footprint. Moreover, a PR campaign on plant health will be arranged as The United Nations General Assembly had declared 2020 as The International Year of Plant Health.
As the newly launched avenue of the Rotaract club of University of Sri Jayewardenapura, it is their sincere hope that they will make a positive impact on taking appropriate steps to conserve Nature in its untouched form, because the Rotaractors, especially understand the need of making the planet Earth, a place worth living.
