In the verdant island of Sri Lanka, the Rotaract movement bloomed like a flower, and today it has spread its fragrance across the land, inspiring young hearts to embrace its noble ideals.

The first Rotaract club took root in Colombo, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Colombo North, in the year 1969. Its founder, Raja Peiris, sowed the seeds of service and selflessness in the hearts of the youth, and thus began a movement that would change the lives of countless individuals.

The Rotaract movement in Sri Lanka grew like a mighty tree, branching out to different parts of the land. Soon, the country was dotted with Rotaract clubs, each one, a beacon of hope and service, and today, there are over 90 Rotaract clubs with a geographical representation in 8 administrative provinces of the country, which include nearly 8000 passionate Rotaractors.

In the early 1970s, a visionary named M. Ramachandran became the District Rotaract representative for Sri Lanka. He nurtured the growth of Rotaract, tending to its needs like a devoted gardener, and watched as it flourished under his care.

Through the years, the Rotaract movement in Sri Lanka has achieved much. It established the Rotaract District Committee in 1974, a body that would guide and oversee the activities of the Rotaract clubs. Together, they initiated a range of community service projects, from educating the youth to protecting the environment.

The Rotaract movement in Sri Lanka has also been involved in international efforts, bringing aid and relief to those affected by disasters in neighbouring countries.

Today, the Rotaract movement in Sri Lanka continues to shine, illuminating the path towards service and leadership. Its members are young adults who are committed to making a difference and believe that youth’s power can change the world. Through its focus on leadership development, community service, and personal growth, Rotaract has empowered young adults to become effective agents of change in their communities. As Rotaract continues to expand in Sri Lanka and around the world, it is sure to have an even greater impact on every form of life and the communities.
