“Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick yourself up after a crushing defeat and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.” -Kumara Sangakkara

Cricket is a captivating sport that brings together athleticism, strategy, and a sense of camaraderie. It continues to evolve and capture the imagination of millions of fans around the world. Cricket has a number of significant advantages. It first encourages physical fitness by involving players in sports that enhance endurance, coordination, and agility, such as running, throwing, catching, and batting. Cricket players learn to cooperate, communicate, and rely on one another to achieve shared objectives, which promotes cooperation and social skills. It encourages strategic thinking by helping players analyze game scenarios and come up with winning tactics. The players’ ability to handle pressure and disappointments while maintaining motivation is aided by the sport’s instillation of discipline, attention, and emotional resilience. Cricket puts a strong emphasis on fair play, sportsmanship, and cultural diversity, bringing people from all backgrounds together and encouraging cross-cultural friendships. Additionally, it enhances overall well-being by lowering stress levels, enhancing physical health, and offering fun recreational activities. In general, playing cricket involves a variety of things. Cricket is a sport that is crucial for fostering community engagement and personal growth since it offers a variety of social, psychological, and physical advantages.

“4 Score 5.0” is a project organized by the Sports and Recreational Activities Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the most awaited annual inter-club cricket tournament, for the fifth consecutive year, in an effort to strengthen the ties we share with all the clubs at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura with the aim of strengthening the fellowship among participants and to motivate athletes to become the better version of themselves.

This project mainly focussed on giving inter-university club members a chance to socialize with one another, foster a sense of community among the participants, give cricket players a stage on which to display and develop their skills, develop good sportsmanship and communication skills in interpersonal relationships, enhance and demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and time management abilities and encourage sportsmen to develop into themselves in a better light.

This cricket match happened at University Stadium on May 27, 2023. The event, which began at 8 am lasted the entire day, and was attended by more than 80 people. Seven teams participated in the tournamnet that day and among them were CSDS of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, AIESEC in USJ, J’pura Vikings, Leo Club of District 306 A2 USJ, J’pura Flames, J’pura Voice and Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. At the end of the match, certificates and trophies were given to the best batsman, best bowler, and best cricketer. The championship went to CSDS of University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the runner-up was acquired by Leo Club of District 306 A2 USJ.

We believe this project has been completed successfully. Holding such a cricket match also provided university students who were bogged down in their academics with a different experience and mental freedom. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped us finish the “4Score 5.0” project, and we eagerly anticipate the “4Score 6.0” project the following year.
