On 25th August 2023, the first Monthly Gathering of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura for the Rotary International year 2023-24 and for the month of August was held at NFC 02 Hall of the Faculty of Applied Sciences starting from 5.00 p.m.

The Co-directors of Community Service Avenue, Rtr. Sanila Gamage, Rtr. Ushara Kularatne and Rtr. Chamiki Fernando organized the Monthly Gathering. The theme of the Monthly Gathering was based on the movie Pirates of the Caribbean which we all have loved since childhood.

Rtr. Kulaji Patabendi started the monthly gathering by saying one of the famous quotes of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean “Not all treasure is gold and silver, mate”. Following the Rotaract formalities, Rtr. Yezeed Yehiya, the President of the club, addressed the gathering, pointing out some important matters related to Rotaract, and spoke about the club proceedings. Rtr. Yezeed Yehiya gave insight into other club projects and the Rotaract District 3220 as well and requested all to participate in all the projects hosted by other clubs and the district.  Following the meeting minutes by Rtr. Dinithi De Silva, the Secretary of the club, and the minutes were proposed by Rtr. Malindi and seconded by Rtr. Tharushi Pigera. Each director of avenues and committees presented updates and announcements while encouraging members to join the projects. The nine avenues were divided into 3 groups by Rtr. Thaha, Rtr. Nisal, and Rtr. Yezeed for the Rotaract Sports Fiesta project.

We eagerly anticipated this moment, the announcement of our Rotaractor of the Month for July. Among the three outstanding nominees, Rtr. Pethmi Induwaree, Rtr. Vindula Vidarshana, and Rtr. Achinika Wijeratne, it is with great pleasure that we congratulate Rtr. Vindula Vidarshana, representing the Community Service Avenue, for being awarded the prestigious title of Rotaractor of the Month for July.

Then the Interactive game started. The game was charades in a new, fun, and interesting way. After the teams were divided, one team arranged as a line then the last person on that line was given a word that was related to the theme of Pirates of the Caribbean, and that Rotaractor had to act out that word to the person in front of him/her. And it was repeated in the line and the person in front of the line had to say the word out loud. Each team was given 5 words to finish. The team who got the correct words mostly won the game. Indeed, the game ended up cheering everyone in the room.

At about 6.30 pm, the fun-filled evening ended with the celebration of one of our Co-directors of the Public Relations Committee, our beloved Rtr. Pasandi Pathmapperuma’s birthday. Rtr. Ushara Kularatne, one of the organizers, gave the Thank you speech by thanking all the participants who came to the Monthly Gathering of the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura for the Rotary International year 2023-24 and August. In the end, our Rotaractors didn’t forget to take photos in the monthly gathering with the loving participants.
