“The game has evolved over the years, and I don’t think we have as a country. In other countries they have, and they adjust much quicker than our boys.”  Mahela Jayawardene

Cricket, with its blend of athleticism, strategy, and camaraderie, remains a captivating sport that continually captivates millions worldwide. Its benefits are manifold. Firstly, it promotes physical fitness through activities like running, throwing, catching, and batting, fostering endurance, coordination, and agility. Moreover, cricket nurtures cooperation and communication among players, fostering teamwork and social skills

Cricket also champions fair play, sportsmanship, and inclusivity, uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds and fostering cross-cultural connections. Beyond its social and psychological benefits, cricket contributes to overall well-being by reducing stress, improving physical health, and offering enjoyable recreational opportunities.

The much-anticipated annual inter-club cricket tournament, “4 Score 6.0”, organized by the Sports and Recreational Activities Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, marked its sixth consecutive year with a grand celebration. This event aimed to fortify the bonds among all clubs at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, fostering fellowship among participants and inspiring athletes to strive for their personal best.

“4 Score 6.0” focused on providing inter-university club members a platform to socialize and build a sense of community. It served as a stage for cricket players to showcase and refine their skills while promoting good sportsmanship and communication in interpersonal relationships. Moreover, the event aimed to cultivate leadership, teamwork, and time management abilities among participants, encouraging sportsmen to emerge as better versions of themselves.

On May 01, 2024, the University Upper Ground came alive with the excitement of the tournament. Starting at 9:30 am and lasting the entire day, the event drew a crowd of over 150 enthusiastic individuals. Eight teams competed fiercely, two teams representing CSDS Club, AIESEC in USJ, J’pura CSM, J’pura Flames, J’puraFlair, and two teams representing Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The day concluded with the presentation of certificates and trophies to the outstanding performers.

CSDS team 02 emerged as the deserving champions, with CSDS team 01 securing the runner-up position. The best batsman and best bowler awards were both claimed by players from the CSDS club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, highlighting their exceptional talent and dedication. This successful event not only provided a refreshing break for university students engrossed in their academic pursuits but also contributed to their mental well-being.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the “4 Score 6.0” project. As we reflect on this memorable event, we eagerly anticipate the next edition, “4 Score 7.0”, with even greater anticipation and enthusiasm.
