The Monthly Gathering of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura for September was held on the 26th of September 2024, from 5.00 pm onwards, at the NFC 5 hall in the Applied Science faculty. The theme for this month’s gathering was “Cultural Kaleidoscope” setting the stage for an evening of fellowship and club updates.

The event, organized by the International Service Avenue, began with Rtr. Pavisha Fernando as the moderator, who set the tone for the evening with an inspiring welcome address. “In the kaleidoscope of cultures, each color brings its own brilliance. Together, we create a mosaic of unity, understanding, and strength”, she stated, encapsulating the essence of the gathering.

Following the welcome, the gathering proceeded with the Rotaract formalities, including the National Anthem, Flag Salutation, Rotaract Invocation, and the Rotary Four-Way Test. These formalities which were also presented by Rtr. Pavisha Fernando, reinforced the core values and principles of Rotaract.

The President of the club, Rtr. Akila Weerasuriya, then addressed the gathering. In his speech, Rtr. Akila highlighted two significant achievements of the club. First, he appreciated the Community Service Avenue for their outstanding work on their recent project. Additionally, he announced that the Holifest project, organized by the Club Service Avenue, had been a success.

Next, the Secretary of the club, Rtr. Nithara Dias, presented the meeting minutes of the previous gathering. The minutes were proposed by Rtr. Desandi Ama and seconded by Rtr. Imandie Madanasinghe, demonstrating the club’s commitment to transparency and proper documentation.

The avenue announcements followed, with directors from all avenues and committees updating the members on ongoing projects and upcoming initiatives. This segment provided a comprehensive overview of the club’s diverse activities and allowed members to stay informed about future opportunities.

A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Rotaractor of the Month for September, presented by the President Rtr. Akila Weerasuriya to Rtr. Uvindu Wannakuwatte, a member of the finance committee. This recognition celebrated the outstanding contributions and dedication of a club member, serving as motivation for others to actively participate in club activities.

In addition to the Rotaractor of the Month, a Director of the Month award was presented to Rtr. Manushi Ratnayake.

To add an element of fun and team building to the gathering, a special game of “Simon Says” was organized. This classic game not only provided entertainment but also promoted active listening, quick thinking, and good-natured competition among the members.

The event concluded with birthday celebrations for Rtr. Chamodh and Rtr. Akila Weerasuriya, both of whom celebrated their birthdays in September. This personal touch added a festive atmosphere to the gathering, allowing members to come together not just as Rotaractors, but as friends celebrating life’s milestones.

As the September Monthly Gathering came to a close, it left members informed about the club’s recent successes and upcoming activities, fostering a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for future projects.
