On the 9th of April 2025, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura came alive with the energy and ambition of hundreds of young minds, as the Finance Committee of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura hosted the much-anticipated Biz Icon 2025. 

This flagship initiative was more than just a seminar ,it was a launchpad for GCE A/L Commerce students to explore the realms of business, innovation, and education through an engaging and well-curated experience. 

Laying the Foundation for Biz Icon

The journey of Biz Icon began with a vision to connect A/L students with the business world by blending academic knowledge with corporate exposure. The organizing team worked diligently to bring together industry experts, educational partners, and interactive segments designed to educate, engage, and inspire. 

As the clock struck 8:30 AM, the event officially began with the ceremonial lighting of the oil lamp and the revealing of the official event logo, setting a vibrant tone. Rtr. Renish Perera, Joint Director of the Finance Committee, delivered the welcome speech, emphasizing the value of such platforms in shaping the professionals of tomorrow. 

A Power-Packed Agenda

The morning unfolded with an inspirational motivational session by Mr. Mandapa Pandithage, who shared practical wisdom and motivating stories that resonated deeply with the audience. This was followed by a thought-provoking session by Mr. Hashan Waduge from Online Accounting.lk, who reflected on how higher education plays a crucial role in shaping future careers.

To maintain the energy and creativity of the event, entertainment performances by our Official Entertainment Partner – Flair Club gave the students refreshing breaks between sessions, while showcasing Sri Lanka’s young artistic talent. 

One of the event’s standout moments was the panel discussion, moderated by Rtr. Renish Perera and conducted by Mr. Dulanjana Vithanage, Managing Director of Jack Fruit Ceylon (PVT) Ltd. The discussion covered relevant business topics, encouraging active participation and thoughtful conversation among the audience. 

Afternoon Insights and Competitive Spirit

Post-lunch, the event featured partner sessions from Helakuru (Official Title Partner), Aspire College of Higher Education [PVT] Ltd, and Onlineaccounting.lk, all of whom demonstrated how technology and education continue to reshape the business landscape in Sri Lanka and beyond. 

An academic highlight of the day was the Business Studies Seminar, conducted by Mr. H.M.A.U. Dayabandara. Tailored specifically for A/L students, the session offered invaluable insights and exam-focused tips that proved immensely beneficial. Adding excitement and a competitive edge to the day, the Quiz Competition tested the knowledge and speed of student teams. 

After two intense rounds, Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo emerged as the winners, receiving scholarships from Online Accounting.lk, while Bandaranayake College, Gampaha, the first runners-up, were awarded tickets to Pearl Bay by our Leisure Partner. 

Gratitude and Lasting Impact

The event concluded with the closing speech by the Chairperson of Biz Icon, Rtr. Neha Anosh, followed by the National Anthem and the formal closing. The overwhelming participation and engagement reflected the success of the event.

Looking Ahead

Biz Icon 2025 was more than just a one-day event , it was a stepping stone for students ready to enter the world of business with confidence and purpose. By combining education, corporate engagement, and student interaction, the event fulfilled its mission of empowering future leaders. 

Project Biz Icon contributed to several key Sustainable Development Goals by empowering youth through entrepreneurial education and innovation. It aligned with Quality Education (SDG 4) by enhancing business knowledge and skills, supported Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) by promoting entrepreneurial thinking, encouraged Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9) through creative business solutions, and strengthened Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17) by fostering collaboration between participants, mentors, and industry professionals.

With the success of this year’s edition, we look forward to building on this momentum in the years to come – nurturing more young minds and setting new benchmarks in student empowerment through innovative initiatives.
