Enter the world of “Cinema Galore,” where The Community Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura embarked on an enriching exploration of the cinematic arts. Across two meticulously planned phases, this project offered more than just movie screenings. It provided an immersive journey into the realm of cinematography, encouraging unity and broadening perspectives. As the curtains draw on this captivating endeavor, we reflect on the magic of storytelling, the ignited passion for cinema, and the memories woven within the tapestry of cinematic excellence.

The “Cinema Galore” project was meticulously crafted to immerse participants in the enchanting world of cinema through a two-phase experience. Designed to ignite a passion for film and cinematography among undergraduates, the project combined the magic of movie watching with insightful learning sessions.

Phase 1: The Wonka Movie Show

The “Wonka Movie Show,” the project’s first stage, was held in the Science Auditorium on February 7, 2024. This was a special showing of the entertaining movie “Wonka.” The selection of this film was meant to enthrall viewers with its inventive narrative, striking images, and endearing characters, making it the ideal beginning to the cinematic adventure.
The Science Auditorium was filled with energy as students assembled to see the movie as a group. Those who attended the movie may express their opinions and feelings in real-time, making it a community experience. This stage sought to highlight the storytelling’s ability to arouse feelings and inspire creativity, as well as to bring back the excitement of watching films. 

Phase 2: Webinar on Cinematography

Held on February 10, 2024, the second part of “Cinema Galore” consisted of an instructional webinar about cinematography. This Zoom conference session, led by renowned cinematographer Mr. Hasantha Dissanayake, covered both the creative and technical sides of filmmaking. 
The broad expertise of Mr. Dissanayake provided pupils with priceless insights into the field of cinematography. He talked about composition, lighting, camera operation principles, and the complex process of visual storytelling. The goal of the webinar was to simplify technical jargon and encourage attendees to learn more about cinematography as a possible profession or pastime.
