War does not determine who is right, only who is left.

Peace is not only better than war but infinitely more arduous.

“Heal the World 2.0,” a project by the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepurawas was launched on the 7th of May 2023, for the second year in a row. The intention of this project was to put out the flames of global war and make unwavering efforts to promote peace.

The project was conducted in three phases. In the first phase, we asked our organizing committee members to share with us what they felt about Global Peace and War and conducted a PR campaign by publishing five posts that conveyed their messages in the form of quotes and poems. Our intention was to share them among Rotaractors and non-Rotaractors locally and globally with the purpose of providing knowledge and awareness about living with different people in the world peacefully.

In the second phase, we collaborated with International Rotaract Clubs and requested that they conduct insightful discussions on “Peace and Violence” to uplift awareness on this timely topic on a global scale. Discussions were conducted by the Rotaract Club of Indore City-Young Leaders (RID 3040), the Rotaract Club of Chennai Central (RID 3232), and the Rotaract Club of Abani Bluenz (RID 3281) and through all these we were able to learn a lot of important information regarding global peace and war and also how we can change our attitudes and ideologies to tackle with this global crisis situation as responsible citizens. Not only we could exchange our knowledge about global peace, but we were also able to establish long-term relationships with them as well.

Under the third phase, we organized a webinar on “Global Peace and War” via Zoom as an inspirational session to condemn the cruel war and protect and establish peace in the world. The session was conducted by Mr. Janith Perera who is an award-winning youth peacebuilder and lecturer who undoubtedly has special knowledge in this field. Through this webinar, we were able to touch the hearts of our participants and convey the message of how important it is to empower our youth to take the right decisions and become peacebuilders in this community, which was reflected in the feedback we received from them.

As human beings living in the same world, we must all condemn war in the name of humanity. The promotion of peaceful coexistence across societies is not only important in and of itself, but can also help to enable the regional and international collaboration required to address cross-border threats to human life and well-being. We should douse the flames of war, soothe the hearts of the people, and let the rain of peace fall on the world.

As Rotaractors of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, we tried our best to spread our message on healing the world through each and every phase of this project. We are glad to announce that, with the help of international Rotaractors who worked with our club on this project, we were able to effectively wrap off this campaign on the 31st of May 2023, by influencing everyone to promote global peace on a global scale.
