Igniting Hope and Empowering Youth: The 33rd Rotaract District Assembly

In a stunning display of dedication and commitment, the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura once again graced the stage at the 33rd Rotaract District Assembly, marking its 12th year of unyielding service. The event was a testament to the club’s unwavering spirit and its resolute journey to uplift communities, inspire change, and foster a brighter future for all.

The Rotaract District Assembly, is a conduit that bridges the past, present, and future, pulsating with electrifying energy. It served as an avenue for the collective vision of young leaders to flourish and evolve, echoing the essence of Rotary’s ethos. As we bid farewell to another successful year of service, the assembly bore witness to the remarkable achievements and commitment of the Rotaract Clubs around Sri Lanka.

Under the themes “Create Hope in the World” and “Youth for All,” the 33rd Rotaract District Assembly set the stage for a year of transformation and inspiration. The spirit of this theme echoed through the halls, whispering promises of change and empowerment, much like a beacon of light in a world that yearns for positivity and progress. After a series of colourful events and presenting awards, in the second half of the event, District Rotaract Representative  Rtn. Rtr. PP Ahamed Hussain handed over the baton to the new District Rotaract Representative Rtr. PP Sathma Jayasinghe and the District Steering Committee for the RI year 2023-24 was appointed. She elaborated on the theme for her year, “Youth For All” and emphasized the importance of the engagement of youth in uplifting the community.

Amidst all the excitement, the club stood tall, proudly receiving the Gold Award for the Most Outstanding Zonal Public Image Effort in Zone 1. This remarkable achievement wasn’t just a badge of honour; it was a reflection of its commitment to amplifying the impact and spreading hope far and wide.

From the public image initiatives category, the club’s efforts were once again celebrated as the club secured two Bronze Awards. The “Someone’s Daughter Volume 5” project, which radiates empathy and compassion, received the Bronze Award further securing its well-deserved recognition. Additionally, the club’s dedication to effective communication and engagement shone through as the club was able to clinch the Bronze Award for the Most Outstanding Club Blog, a platform that captures the essence of their journey and aspirations.

Among the accolades and awards, the Rotaract District Citation – Gold Distinction stood as a testament to the club’s ceaseless efforts to bring about positive change. This prestigious recognition not only validated their hard work but also encouraged them to reach even greater heights in the pursuit of their noble goals.

The Assembly was also a platform to celebrate the “Spirit of Service” in each Rotaract Club. This year, Rtr. Malithi Fernando, our remarkable Editor of the Rotaract Club of Univesity of Sri Jayewardenepura for the RI year 2022-23, was bestowed with this honour, exemplifying the heart and soul of Rotaract through her selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to creating a better world.

As we navigate the uncharted waters of today’s world, the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura remains an unwavering source of inspiration and hope. The awards of excellence, including PETs and SETs 2022-23, Sustainability Summit 2023, and Sarubima, reaffirm the club’s commitment to pushing boundaries and embracing new horizons.

In a world where actions speak louder than words, the Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Rtr. Madushan Dananjaya our outstanding Immediate Past President for the RI year 2023-24, underscores the profound impact of his contributions.

Rtr. Imesha Udawatta was recognized for being a PR Advocate for the Editorial Team of the District during the past year. She embodied the power of communication, underscoring how their collective voices have the potential to spark change and kindle hope.

This year’s assembly wasn’t just an event; it was a clarion call to action. Indirectly, it whispered of a new era where hope, empowerment, and youth empowerment stand at the forefront of every endeavour.

In a world hungry for transformation, the 33rd Rotaract District Assembly radiated a powerful message: that the flame of hope, once ignited, can light up even the darkest corners, creating a world where youth empowerment takes center stage. As we embrace the 12th year of service, of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura the journey ahead is one of promise, determination, and the relentless pursuit of a better tomorrow.
