Rotaract Road trip to Jaffna which was organized by the District Steering Committee of Rotaract District 3220 was indeed a memorable trip for all the Rotaractors who took part in it. We left Colombo at midnight on the 12th of September and reached Jaffna around 8’O clock in the next morning. The food was amazing and delicious and it was a new experience to everyone.

After refreshing ourselves the first visit was to Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya, the place where Lord Buddha came during his second visit to Sri Lanka. We also visited “Naga Pushani Amman Kovil” which is one of the most sacred kovils among Hindus, situated in a close proximity from Nagadeepaya temple. We took a boat ride to the island in which these places are situated.

On the second day of our visit after the DCM, the most anticipated “Tour de Yazhpanam” commenced and some of the first few place we visited were Jaffna fort and Nallur Kovil. All the Rotaractors enjoyed their journey to the fullest despite of the blazing sun.

Most importantly, we did not forget to taste the very famous Rio Ice cream which was like heaven to us as we were walking around under the hot sun. The District Committee was much obliged to take us to the KKS beach as time did not allow us to enjoy a lot the previous day.

Third and final day of the road trip, we checked ourselves out from the rest houses with a handful of memories we made there and left to attend the events planned for the rest of the day. Then we attended the Joint Installation Ceremony of Rotaract Clubs of Chullipuram, Nallur Heritage and Jaffna Peninsula where most of us were wearing the traditional costumes like wettis and sarees.

After the lunch we attended the Joint Installation Ceremony of Rotaract Clubs of Jaffna and Jaffna Midtown, where the respective Presidents and Board of Directors took over their responsibilities for the upcoming year.

After spending some quality time with our fellow Rotaractors of Jaffna we left for Colombo at around 5.00 p.m. During the three days spent in Jaffna we got to taste delicious food, created lifelong memories and made a lot of friends. It is needless to say that the road trip to Jaffna was an unforgettable journey for all the Rotaractors as it brought people from different corners of Sri Lanka together and it proved that the differences of culture and creed should not matter.
