“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” – Michael Jordan

Respawn was a virtual mobile gaming championship which was organized by the Finance Committee along with the Public Relations Committee of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. It was initiated to raise funds for the upcoming projects of the club while providing a quality and entertaining time to both Rotaractors and Non-Rotaractors who were involved in E-sports.

The project was commenced under two tournaments; PUBG Mobile and Call Of Duty Mobile.

We had a target of 25 entries each for PUBG Mobile and Call Of Duty Mobile tournaments. It was mandatory for each team to have four members. Therefore, under the PR campaign, we published attractive posts and videos from the beginning of the project. Those materials were highly  appreciated by the audience and as a result, we were able to get the attention of many individuals, and we caught our target entries in a few days. Also, many sponsors joined us to be a part of such an energetic project which made our prizes stronger than we initially planned.

Registrations were opened on the 25th of February for both tournaments. During the registration period, we announced an attractive prize pool, which we allocated cash prizes worth Rs. 18000 and gifts worth Rs. 13000 for the winning team. The 1st runners-up team and the player with the most kills of each tournament were also rewarded with valuable gifts.

The tournaments were held on the 13th and the 14th of March 2021, respectively for PUBG Mobile and Call Of Duty Mobile. The live stream was carried out by KISSA GAMING on both Facebook and YouTube platforms. There were many talented and energetic teams who put a huge effort to be the champions. At the end of each tournament, after exciting battles, we announced the winners and rewarded them the attractive cash prizes along with other valuable gifts.

On the 13th of March, in the PUBG Mobile category, Team “B4M Unstoppable” emerged as the champions and the Team “New State” became the runner’s up, while Aditha Widyaratne from team “B4M Unstoppable” became the Gun Slinger of the tournament.

On the 14th of March, in the Call of Duty Mobile category, all the teams played well but the Team “Tipi Tips and Boom Boom” emerged as the champions and the Team “Boss Masters” became the runners-up, while Adithya Jayakody from Team “Tipi Tips and Boom Boom” became the Conqueror of the tournament.

We assume that it would have been an entertaining time for all the players as well as the spectators throughout the tournament. Positive feedbacks from the players and the large number of spectators joined us through both platforms confirmed that the project Respawn was a success. Although we had to carry out this project as virtually due to the pandemic situation, we were able to get registered 200 participants to take part in Respawn, making it a very successful gaming tournament while fulfilling both short term and long term outcomes.
