Valentine’s in a Different Perspective

Here’s a question, Do you really have to be in a relationship to celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Interested to know the answer? Read on!!

Valentine’s Day is all about embracing love, but that does not mean single folks cannot have a great day. 14th of February is usually highlighted by red hearts and “I love you” messages. A day to embrace being in love and to be loved. On this special day, there are plenty of fun things you may do alone or with other singles.

You might be wondering how singles can commemorate Valentine’s Day without a significant other. We identify relationships with romantic love far too often, but we should also be about honoring love amongst families and friends. Make use of Valentine’s Day to strengthen family bonds and instill in your little siblings some timeless human ideals.

Valentine’s Day is an ideal time to spread the love and affection message. While we will be providing a few suggestions for family bonding activities, hanging out with friends, and showing love and care for the less fortunate, there’s nothing stopping you from coming up with your own unique ideas.

Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity for us to show our affection for our grandparents, parents and siblings. You can make special Valentine’s Day cards for your family members, write them a letter expressing your love and affection, or send them your own hand-made greeting cards for Valentine’s Day. Keep in mind that nothing beats a personal touch.

Repeatedly, the value of family mealtimes in fostering healthy eating habits and bonding has been emphasized. Participate in the preparation of something unique and enjoy the Valentine’s Day lunch as a family. Turn off the attention-seeking electronic devices and reminisce about the good old days because every second spent as a family is a precious time. After a filling meal, sit down with everyone in the family and share some of each others’ childhood memories, tell/read them a story, or play some board games. Make some priceless moments with your parents, grandparents and siblings to cherish for the rest of their lives.

We Rotaractors, are familiar with the Rotary theme for this year. “Serve to change lives”. During his lifetime, St Valentine was said to have affected many people’s lives. You can also use Valentine’s Day to make a positive influence in the lives of others who are less fortunate than you are. Visit an orphanage or an elderly home with your family and encourage everyone to promote the message of love and unity.

Don’t forget about your four-legged buddies when you’re out and about with your family showering love and affection. Adopt a pet from an animal shelter or visit a welfare home. Animals, too, crave and appreciate love and kindness.

Valentine’s day could be a good day to repair old bridges and to build new ones. With busy schedules, leaving little time for socializing,  days such as Valentine’s Day provide the ideal opportunity to reconnect with old acquaintances.

Be that someone who brightens the lives of people who are not so fortunate, like the flame that illuminates even the darkest corners. Purchase gifts for those who perform a vital part in your life but aren’t on your list of notables, such as your housekeeper, the postman etc.

While shedding love and care on your close ones, let us see how you can treat yourself on Valentine’s Day. The word you are looking for is SELF LOVE.

Wait a minute ….. SELF LOVE?

Indeed, Valentine’s Day is about more than just expressing love to others; it’s also about loving yourself! It’s time to look in the mirror and love who YOU are and what YOU have. Appreciate what your body accomplishes for you every day. Respect your mind for everything that it achieves. Make yourself a priority and schedule time for the things that matter to you. Be kind to yourself. This is an important concern.

“How we think and feel about ourselves physically, and how we believe others see us” is how body image is defined. As a result, it all begins with how YOU see yourself. As a result, perceive yourself as stunning and unique as you are.

The first step toward self-love is to have a positive attitude regardless of the circumstances. Happiness is largely dependent on one’s physical well-being. Health is the most important aspect of one’s existence. Dopamine is produced in brain cells when people are joyful. Thinking about self-love improves cognitive skills such as memory, concentration, learning, and recall.

SO WHO BETTER CAN BE YOUR VALENTINE AS YOURSELF? That’s right friend, YOU do YOU!

Every victory, no matter how minor, is a victory! Take pride in each and every one of them, and revel in your win! You’ve worked hard and gotten up every day, and you deserve to be treated!

Make use of this precious time and find your Passion !!!

Join a volunteering organization if community service brings happiness and peace to your mind. If so joining Rotaract is the ideal thing to do. Being a Rotaractor itself pays off. This provides you the opportunity of gaining something in return by serving to change lives. The gains as a Rotaractor can be new friends, experiences and opportunities, knowledge, improvement of skills and talents, inner peace, and whatnot.

Make the most of Valentine’s Day by spoiling yourself with what makes you happy or spreading the love to others in your community. This year, for a change, let us look at Valentine’s Day from a different perspective.

Valentine’s Day is not only just for couples, but also for EVERYONE.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY FOLKS!!!!
