The January 2026 Monthly Gathering of the Rotaract Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (RACUSJ) was held in celebration of “Thai Pongal”, embracing culture, gratitude, and unity among members. Inspired by the theme quote,
“๐ ๐ฌ๐๐๐ฌ๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐จ๐ ๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ๐ ๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ ๐จ๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ง,โ the gathering highlighted the importance of heritage and fellowship within the RACUSJ community.
The event was successfully organized by the Public Relations Committee, with Rtr. Sihas Dissanayake, serving as the compere for the evening. In keeping with the festive theme, members attended dressed in traditional attire, adding vibrance and authenticity to the celebration.
The proceedings commenced with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the traditional Flag Salutation, the Rotaract Invocation, and the Rotary Four-Way Test, reflecting the principles and unity upheld by the club.
President Rtr. Nethmi Bandara then addressed the gathering, sharing updates on ongoing initiatives and outlining the clubโs direction for the months ahead. Subsequently, Secretary Rtr. Manushi Rathanayake presented the monthly administrative updates, summarizing the activities and achievements across all avenues.
Representatives from each avenue delivered brief updates on their recent projects and upcoming plans. These presentations demonstrated the active engagement and collaborative spirit that continue to strengthen RACUSJ.
A highlight of the evening was the appreciation segment, where members were recognized for their outstanding performance. The “Rotaractor of the Month for January” was awarded to Rtr. Vihara Bandara, in recognition of her commitment and dedication. The title of “Director of the Month” was presented to Rtr. Nethmi Tharushika for her leadership and contributions.
Further recognitions included Rtr. Lithasha Abayarathne as the “PR Member of the Month”, and Rtr. Ravisha Ranasinghe as the “Editorial Member of the Month”, appreciating their valuable efforts towards the clubโs progress.
Bringing the celebration to a warm conclusion, members shared an assortment of sweets brought by various avenues and committees. This final segment fostered interaction and fellowship, perfectly aligning with the spirit of Thai Pongal and the theme of togetherness. The evening was filled with joy, cultural pride, and meaningful connections, with everyone thoroughly enjoying the gathering.
The January 2026 Monthly Gathering successfully combined formal proceedings with cultural celebration, reinforcing unity and strengthening bonds among members. The event once again reflected the enthusiasm, diversity, and collective spirit that define the RACUSJ family.
