A journey of compassion, unity and service
In times of uncertainty, it is compassion that brings people together. Api Ekwa was born from this very spirit – a collective effort to stand beside communities in need and remind them that they are never alone.
What began as a response to the most recent natural disaster, Cyclone Ditwah, that struck our motherland soon evolved into a meaningful journey of service and humanity. Through teamwork, dedication, and commitment, the Api Ekwa project, an initiative of the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, unfolded in multiple phases, each leaving behind a lasting impact.
Phase 01: Standing with flood- affected communities.
The foundation of Api Ekwa was laid in response to the devastating cyclone Ditwah and floods that affected many in our country. Families were left struggling without access to basic necessities, and immediate action was crucial.
Our first step was organizing the collection and distribution of essential items at the wake of early December. Our very own Rotaractors worked tirelessly at distribution points, sorting and packing donations with care. From food items to daily essentials, every package carried not just supplies, but a message of hope.
Once prepared, these donations were distributed directly to affected communities, ensuring that aid reached where it was needed the most. The success of this phase was further strengthened by the invaluable support of the St.John Ambulance Service. Their contribution palyed a crucial role in ensuring that aid was delivered smoothly and responsibly and in an efficient and safe manner.
This phase was more than relief work, it was a reminder that even in the face of loss and destruction, compassion and unity allows us to stand stronger.

Phase 02: Extending life through Blood Donation
While Phase 01 focused on providing immediate relief, Api Ekwa expanded its service to address another critical need – saving lives.
On January 19th 2026, we successfully organized a blood donation campaign, held at the New Management Faculty building, bringing together individuals willing to make a life-saving difference. This created a platform for people to contribute in the most selfless way possible.
Each donor who stepped forward became a part of a larger mission- proving that a single act can ripple into countless lives saved.
And also the success of this phase was made possible through the generous support of the Narahenpita Blood Bank. Their professional guidance and medical expertise ensured that the entire process was conducted safely. Their collaboration not only strengthened our initiative, but also ensured that every drop of blood could go onto save lives.
At the heart of Api Ekwa were the donors – the driving force behind every success.. Their generosity made every phase possible, as their willingness to donate made a profound difference. Each of their contributions, no matter how small or huge, carried immense value and became a source of hope for those who have lost everything.

As Api Ekwa comes to an end, it leaves behind more than just completed tasks. This project demonstrated the power of coming together for a greater cause. We may have reached the conclusion of our project – but its impact continues to live on – in the smiles of those who received help, in the lives saved and in the hearts of everyone who took part.
Api Ekwa was never just an initiative – it was a collective effort, built on unity and shared purpose.
